We had pulled out of camp about 9am, drove south for about 4 hours before stopping at Mile High Campground. Someone from the rally told us about this place and we decided to try it. Elevation is 5400 ft. At the campground, and it is run by Cherokee Indians. It is primitive camping, which means no hookups, we are in a secluded camp site with a view of the mountains.

When checking in to the campground the host told us about 6pm they were having dinner brought in by the owner. Ken and I ate and forgot about it, but they came down and invited us to come up. We had gone up and ate bear meat, really tasty, bean rolls, made with corn meal and beans, sauerkraut with corn, collard greens, apple cobbler, all very good. Right before we got there, they had elk at the salt block that they have in an open grassy spot. Before dark we decided to take a drive along Blue Ridge Parkway, saw a dozen elk and two gobbler turkeys.
Friday, May 30 & 31
We drove down to Maggie Valley for mice traps, we had got some in overnight because Ken left the one door open. We thought we had one, but ended up with two. We had driven to the town of Cherokee, to find the campground that the caravan is starting at, made reservations for one night before the caravan starts. Drove around town, ate some lunch and back to camp. We left again in the morning for Pigeon Forge in Tennessee, saw quite a few turkey on the drive over the mountain. Drove through Pigeon Forge onto Sevierville, TN to the Coleman Store, Lodge Dutch Oven store and then over to Smoky Mountain Knife Works store. While their we entered into a drawing for a grand prize for the 125th year anniversary of Case Knives. Guess what Ken had won it, before walking out a guy offered Ken $550 cash, but talking to the guy, he said it probably worth $1000. The knife is in a cedar wooden case, the knife has a mother of pearl handle and engraved with the Presidents name of the Smoky Mountain and signed by Case knife president and Smoky Mountain president.
Anyone want to make an offer, it's for sale. The Case Knives are made in Bradford, PA, the president was surprised that someone from Pa won it.
The scenery is beautiful with mountain laurel blooming and mountain ranges.
We've had a couple of full days and am looking forward to the caravan starting. We caught another two mice overnight before pulling out and going to KOA in Cherokee for caravan.
