Va Highland Haven

Sunday, May 25

We had a potluck breakfast this morning, very unusual mostly done for dinner. It was really good with a huge variety of food, three Dutch oven egg meals, banana buttermilk pancakes, different rolls, gluten free egg dishes, oatmeal and fruit. Great start to a day. Ken and I decided to drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mabry Mill. This mill is arguably the most picturesque spot on the entire parkway. Ed Mabry built this mill and the Mabrys ground corn for their neighbors for three decades, creating a community gathering place for the folks who called Meadows of Dan home. They had added a wheelwright shop, sawmill, and blacksmith shop to his enterprise in addition to a two story frame house.

After returning back to camp, we just sat around and talked. In the evening, we all sat outside and watched the sunset, beautiful.

Ken had noticed the other day, that we had a flat tire on the trailer, he thinks we got it coming into campground cause the monitor didn't go off. He had taken the tire off and we went to Floyd to get the tire fixed today, with southern hospitality, $6. Came back, put tire back on, and we just sat around the rest of the day, reading, sleeping and talking to a nice couple that we had met. We had watched the sunset again, not as nice as last nights.

A lot of the rally people left today, there are only six couples left in the park. We drove down toward Floyd and got a road that ran us over to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Drove the Ridge for awhile heading north until we came to a road that took us back to route 221 and back to camp. We just sat around and talked to different people during the day and into the evening and watched the sunset again.

Wednesday, May 28

We didn't do much today, wiped the truck down, and did laundry. We then drove into Floyd to the bakery and stopped off for some lunch, walked through the hardware store and went back to camp. We sat and watched the sunset again for the last time, we would come back again sometime if ever in the area. Nice quite Airstream Park, with great views. Wifi is hard to come by down here.
